Craft addict

Ever since my awesome mom got me a sewing machine for my birthday in July, I have been a sewing machine. Jackie got me a really cool book called simple sewing that has some fun projects in it. I've also been hitting up the craft blog scene daily and have found amazing inspiration. One of my favorite blogs, u-handblog, taught me how to sew a zipper!

I am seriously so proud of this creation. It matches a purse that I made nicole for her birthday but I forgot to take a piccy of it before i gave it to her and i need to remind myself to ask her to take one. It was a super cute purse but a little more flimsy than I expected. Anyway... Below is another purse I made (my first creation ever, actually) with no pattern or anything. Therefore, it is super sloppy and the inside is too horrific to photograph, but I secretly love it so much and am really impressed with it. I made the bag about 3 weeks ago but it was only this weekend that I added the applique and created the matching little wallet thingy. I had a lot of fun with the appliques! I hand stitched them on b/c I was too afraid of the sewing machine. I'm sure if I stitched them on before I finished the bag it would be a lot easier.

I'm just having fun making things and learning as I go! Watch out Christmas, you aren't going to know what hit you.

Labor Day Weekend

This Labor Day weekend was super fun. I started the weekend a little early at happy hour at the Yard House for Nicole's 25th bday and then went to Irvine Meadows for the Jack Johnson concert! We tried our best to get there early but of course, ended up getting the crappiest seats in the house. We couldn't even see Jack b/c of some huge speakers, but it was totally fun anyway just sitting on our blankets and listening to the music. Jack had on this sweet Surfrider Foundation shirt that I think I am going to get Josh some time soon:
A hawaiian girl named Paula Fuga opened for him and she was amazing! Kind of bluesy-hawaiian, very coool. They sang a song together called Country Road that josh and i are secretly obsessed with, but it is not on any album so we have to resort to this youtube clip from this year's Kokua Festival.: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NEmNidf0Xxg&feature=related. Unforch I have no idea how to embed that here.

Saturday we celebrated Mimi's 80th birthday! The whole family hung out at her house for the majority of the day and she gave me some sweet pointers on sewing. She was cracking up that I use scissors to cut fabric, saying that her own grandma used scissors and that I was working with ancient tools. So it goes!

Sunday we went to the Angel game and then the street fair. It was kind of a blur...

Monday was at my uncle's beach house in Newport. We played rock band, bbq'd burgs, drank delicious margs, and took the duffy for a spin! Here's some pics:

It was awesome but the AM was overcast so we didn't get to go to the actual beach. Hopefully this saturday I'm going to go with my sister!

That's all for now! Back to sleep...
